BROOKFIELD HOMES HAWAI‘I AND KISCO SENIOR LIVING ANNOUNCE HAWAI‘I’S FIRST INTEGRATED AGE-RESTRICTED ACTIVE ADULT AND CONTINUING CARE COMMUNITY

HONOLULU (May 30, 2007) – Hawaii-based developer Brookfield Homes Hawai‘ Inc and nationally-acclaimed senior living industry leader Kisco Senior Living, LLC, today unveiled their joint venture plans to develop Hawaii’s first age-restricted active adult and continuing care retirement community (CCRC) dedicated to wellness as a way of living.

Leihano, located on 40 acres in Kapolei, O‘ahu, will feature a mix of condominium, independent living and CCRC accommodations, a 20,000-square-foot state-of-the-art Clubhouse and fitness hale, community parks and walking trails, a “Main Street” commercial area and a wide variety of amenities dedicated to the concept of wellness. A skilled nursing facility and assisted living will also be part of the village. Groundbreaking is scheduled to begin in early 2008, with the information gallery opening early summer.

“We are extremely proud to provide Hawai‘i with the first village focused on the needs of our kupuna and we are very pleased to partner with Kisco Senior Living in this exciting development,” said Jeffrey Prostor, president of Brookfield Homes Hawai‘i.

“Brookfield Homes Hawai‘i is the perfect partner for our first project in Hawai‘i,” said Mitch Brown, executive vice president of development for Kisco Senior Living. “Their experience in creating neighborhoods that honor the island lifestyle mesh well with our dedication to build and operate communities where our parents would want to live.”

Leihano will embrace an authentic island lifestyle founded in time-honored traditions that include gracious hospitality, respect for elders and a heritage of wellness. Its living design will create a fusion between resident and guest, independence and community, and modern O‘ahu and ancient Hawai‘i. Structures will be placed to enable vibrant energy and interactions that encourage a true sense of community while at the same time afford ample green space and privacy.

Designed by Hawai‘i’s award-winning Group 70 and JZMK Architects, Leihano will foster connectivity, rediscovery and the Hawaiian traditions of kokua (support) and malama (caring). The community’s “Main Street” will offer residents social as well as vocational connections and opportunities. Leihano will feature a number of shared community amenities, including a 20,000-square-foot community Clubhouse complete with an event pavilion, theatre, bistro café and a clubroom. In addition, it will offer a state-of-the-art fitness center, junior Olympic-sized swimming pools, locker and shower rooms, wellness & spa services center and Pau Hana lanai. Additional features include two master-planned private parks, meandering walking paths, tropical landscape and green spaces.

The age-restricted component, called Maile at Leihano, will feature 344 fee-simple condominium homes for families with one member over age 55. The first phase will contain homes in a four-story building with four homes on each floor served by elevators, a lobby and enclosed parking spaces. Homes will range between 1,600 square feet for a one-bedroom to 2,100 square feet for a three-bedroom.

The continuing care component, called ‘Ilima at Leihano, will feature 240 independent living units offering a mix of cottage duplexes and apartment homes. The two-bedroom, two-bath cottages will range from 1,450 square feet to 1,650 square feet. Apartments will range from 665 square feet for a one-bedroom residence to 1,370 square feet for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment. Residents will enjoy a wealth of amenities and services such as meals in multiple dining venues, housekeeping, scheduled transportation, concierge services, 24-hour response and an array of activities and social programs. In addition, residents will be provided access to a continuum of care options that include assisted living, memory support rooms and 24-hour skilled nursing.

With a focus on wellness, the community will provide all residents with access to Kisco Senior Living’s award-winning wellness program. Offering a holistic approach that covers mind, body and spirit, the wellness program encourages residents to develop personal health habits in six dimensions of wellness, including emotional, intellectual, physical, spiritual, social and vocational. As part of this program, residents will enjoy a full-time wellness director, Keiser® exercise equipment designed especially for older adults, spirituality and meditation, intergenerational activities, ongoing seminars, exercise classes and lifelong learning activities.
